Sports Management Program

Establishment

The Sports Management Programme affiliated to Kelkit Aydın Doğan Vocational School was established by decision of Gümüşhane University Senate (dated 24.09.2018, numbered 39089344-5783) and approval from the Higher Education Executive Board (dated 10.10.2018). The programme offers first education starting from the 2020-2021 academic year.

Mission 

To advance the scientific and cultural growth of the region, our vocational school strives to provide educational opportunities to young people in our country and surrounding area. Our goal is to cultivate highly-skilled professionals who can meet the needs of society.

Vision    

To become the premier vocational school that caters to the regional and national demand for proficient intermediate manpower by producing competent graduates of Kelkit Aydın Doğan Vocational School who possess the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle the challenges encountered by their peers.

Degree to be obtained:  

Graduates will be awarded an associate degree in Sport Management.

Admission Requirements:     

To be successful in the ÖSYS exam, conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM), prospective students must refer to the admission requirements for foreign students published on the university website at the start of each academic year.

Transition to Upper Degree

Higher education candidates who have completed their associate degree successfully can transfer to undergraduate programmes in Business Administration, Business Administration, Recreation, and Sports Management using the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS). The 2019 Vocational Schools and Open Education Associate Degree Programmes Graduates of Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) Guide to Undergraduate Education can provide detailed information.

Physical education and sports teaching, coaching education, sports management, and recreation, among others, obtained through the talent exam, can be considered for credit and ECTS compliance based on the courses completed in BESYO and sports science faculties.

Graduation Requirements

Criteria stipulate that students must finish all the courses in the programme, accruing 120 ECTS, and achieve a GPA of no less than 2.0 out of 4.00 to be conferred their degree.

Employment Opportunities for Graduates of      

Graduates who successfully complete the Associate Degree Programme in Sport Management have the chance to work in both the private and public sectors. They can find employment in sports clubs, youth and sports directorates, as well as in departments of marketing, public relations, human resources, finance, management, sponsorship, and event management. Apart from these, graduates who possess an entrepreneurial drive and match the knowledge they acquire can initiate their own ventures in all sectors connected to sports management and bridge the void in the industry.

Learning Objectives 

This programme aims to alleviate the shortage of skilled intermediate personnel in various levels and positions associated with sports management, including marketing, finance, public relations, sports facility management, and field material knowledge, through the provision of dependable education.

Establishment

The Department of Management and Organisation was established in the academic year 2019-2020 with a sole programme, the Sports Management programme. In the academic year 2020-2021, the Sports Management programme commenced educational activities for students.

Mission.

Our objective is to educate individuals who can lead society in changing world conditions, and who respect human values. We strive to equip them with the ability to think critically, analyze, and question, as this is crucial for both public and private sectors in all eras, utilizing advanced technologies. Moreover, we aim to facilitate ongoing education and development, by enabling access to, production, sharing, and transformation of information into actionable knowledge.

The department's objective is to provide graduates with adequate professional expertise, the ability to keep up with technological advancements, and high-level practical skills benefiting their nation.

 

Vision

Our objective focuses on training students who possess awareness and can adjust to socio-economic circumstances and technological advancements. Our aim is to meet the demands of the present time by providing the required qualifications for intermediate staff, to be viewed as a prominent and esteemed vocational institution in our region and country.

Sport Management Department Quality Committee Members

Duties and Functioning of the Department Quality Committee

1) At the end of each academic year

a) Improving the quality of education and training

b) The department board presents recommendations to enhance the calibre of research and development operations.

The proposals are added to the department board's agenda and deliberated upon. Those suggestions that are accepted are subsequently implemented by the department.

2) At the start of each academic year, the departmental quality board examines previous quality practices and presents the departmental board with recommendations for addressing deviations in quality practices.

Aims of the Sport Management Programme

The aim of the Sport Management Associate Degree Programme is to meet the needs in different levels of facilities and positions related to sport management (such as marketing, finance, public relations, field equipment knowledge, sport facility management).

Within the scope of the programme's primary objective, the intention is to equip our students with the following proficiencies:

  • To develop the capacity to identify problem-solving principles applicable to sports management as a practitioner, proposing and defending solutions to problems.
  • To enhance individuals' knowledge and skills and raise their awareness,
  • To enable the implementation of decisions at the functional and tactical levels.
  • To possess fundamental competences in sports management activities' organisation, their application and evaluation.
  • To have knowledge of sports management application plans and programmes, as well as the corresponding duties and responsibilities.
  • To effectively apply theoretical knowledge and acquire practical skills required for professional practice, while acknowledging related duties and responsibilities.
  • To acquire the capacity for creativity in sports management and specialize partially in a particular field.
  • Marketing, public relations, event management and sports facilities, etc. to gain self-sufficiency to work in areas such as,
  • To gain the necessary knowledge and skills in the field of sports sciences.

Graduates are entitled 

Students who fulfil the graduation requirements of the Sport Management Associate Degree Programme receive the Sport Management Associate Degree Programme Diploma.

Admission Requirements

To be successful in the TYT (Basic Proficiency Test) exam conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). The admission requirements for foreign students are announced on the university website at the beginning of each academic year.

Vertical Transfer Areas

Graduates who have successfully completed their associate degree education can make vertical transfer to the 4-year undergraduate programmes of Business Administration, Business Administration, Recreation, Sports Management of universities, provided that they have enough points from the DGS (Vertical Transfer Examination) exam held by ÖSYM. In addition, all graduates have the opportunity to continue to the Open Education Faculty Economics or Business Administration Departments from the third year and complete their bachelor's degree.

Graduation Requirements

Students are eligible for graduation upon successful completion of all 120 ECTS required courses with a minimum grade of DC. Additionally, they must attain a weighted grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00 and complete a 30-day internship.

Those who successfully complete the Sport Management associate degree programme have access to a wide variety of job opportunities in both the public and private sectors. Program graduates are highly desirable to sports clubs and youth and sports directorates. Additionally, these graduates can work in marketing, public relations, human resources, finance, management, sponsorship, and event management departments. Apart from this, graduates who possess an entrepreneurial spirit and align with the received information have an opportunity to establish their own businesses in all fields associated with sports management, thereby filling the void in the domain.

Counselling services offered to students

Consultancy services are provided under 4 main headings. These are

1. Course Selection and Registration: As part of the course selection process, students get in touch with their academic advisors and access counselling services.

2. Participation in exchange programmes (Erasmus, Farabi, Mevlana etc.): Announcements are made to students on the official website of the university every academic year.

3. Employment: Students are informed collectively once per semester about the available employment fields and working conditions. Additionally, individual students may request information on their desired fields and associated working conditions.

4. Internship: Announcements are released each academic term on the university's official website. Additionally, the internship commission members provide guidance to students on contacting the department secretariat for obtaining internship files and following relevant protocols.

Opportunities to Participate in Exchange Programmes

Students interested in exchange programmes may apply for the Erasmus, Mevlana, and Farabi programmes through the External Relations Office. Department coordinators are available to provide students with application assistance and support for subsequent procedures.
